A tumble dryer is a household appliance that is used to remove moisture from a load of clothing and other textiles, generally shortly after they are cleaned in a washing machine.
Most tumble dryers are similar with Drum Dryers, which consist of a rotating drum called a tumbler through which heated air is circulated to evaporate the moisture from the load. The tumbler is rotated to maintain air space between the articles in the load.
Using these machines may cause clothes to shrink or become less soft (due to loss of short soft fibers/lint). For these reasons, as well as to save energy, many people use open air methods such as a clothes line and clotheshorse.
Operating Principle
The Drum Dryers are basically Conduction Dryers. Wet feed film (in liquid or paste form) is applied to the rotating metal cylinder inside which, a heating medium is supplied. Material film dries to the final moisture level and is scraped off.
Special Features
- Suitable for handling liquid or pasty feeds.
- Product is powdery, flaky form
- Uniform drying due to uniform application of film.
- Medium range capacities.
- Very High thermal efficiency
- Continuous operation
- Compact installation
- Closed construction is possible
