Manometers

Manometer is an instrument used to measure the pressure exerted by liquids and gases. Pressure is exerted on one end of a U-shaped tube partially filled with liquid; the liquid is displaced upwards on the other side of the tube by a distance proportional to the pressure difference on each side of the tube.

A manometer could refer to a pressure measuring instrument, usually limited to measuring pressures near to atmospheric. The term manometer is often used to refer specifically to liquid column hydrostatic instruments.

It is also used to measure pressure in a fluid, especially a double-legged liquid column gauge used to measure the difference in the pressures of two fluids.

Principle

Manometers are those pressure measuring devices which are based on the principle of balancing the column of liquid by the same or another column of liquid.

Types of Manometers

Manometers are of two types.

Simple manometers

Simple manometers are those which measure pressure at a point in a fluid containing in the pipe or a vessel.

Differential manometers

Differential manometers measure the difference of pressure between any two points in a fluid contained in a pipe or vessel.

Industrial applications

Manometers are used for a variety of industrial and application specific pressure monitering applications. visual monitering of air and gas pressure for compressors, vaccum equipment and speciality tank applications such as medical gas cylinders, fire extinguishers,
